Bandon Marsh

Designated a National Wildlife Refuge, visiting the Bandon Marsh allows you to experience the estuary glimpsed in various spots as you drive around Bandon, for example just south of the Coquille River bridge. Through the pertinacious efforts of the Fish and Wildlife Service and other supporting people and organizations over more than two decades, this area has been restored to its natural state to support wildlife rather than farming. Clamming and birding are among the activities now commonly enjoyed at this protected venue.

Observation deck

The observation deck allows folks of any mobility status a glimpse of this wetland and its inhabitants. Bring your binoculars to more closely examine the flora and fauna of the southern Oregon coast.

Note: Stairs lead down to actual marsh access. There did not appear to be seating past the deck, so I did not venture beyond its rails. Pets are not allowed on the refuge.

Directions: Take Riverside Drive off of Highway 101. The parking area is visible on the west side of the road. The route to the observation deck is clearly marked from the parking area.
